What is Zeemo?

Simply put, Zeemo is a system (client server based) that will let you find information, chat with other users and share your files. The overall benefit of Zeemo is, that it makes it easier to find and retrieve information and simplifies communication with other users. The functionality of Zeemo depend on the used module. Because Zeemo is quite unique in it's capabilities it is best to download Zeemo and see how it works.

What is an item?

It depends on the module. It can be a Forum, but also a RSS news item. New modules like the Chat module and the Dating module are under development and are expected soon.

How can I create a new item?

To create a new item click on the 'New item' icon on the tool bar. A window will pop up with a list of item types. Choose one of the types from the list and then click on 'Ok'. A new window will appear with several fields which have to be filled in. Fields marked with an asterix ('*') are mandatory, while the other fields may be left empty.

There are two field types that deserve special attention:

• Name Field. Regardless of the item type chosen, the first field will always be the 'Name' field which represents the name of your search. This name will be shown in the item tree.
• Shared Directory Field. In some cases you may want to add more files to the item than can be uploaded using the 'Picture' field. In this case you could still share these files with other users by putting them in the 'Shared Directory' field. Whenever another user adds your item to the list of favorites he or she can also download the files from your shared directory. Of course you must be on line to be able to share files. If you don't want to share files just leave this field empty and remove the possibility of file sharing completely.

How can I add a new search?

To add a new search click on the 'Search' icon on the tool bar. A window will pop up with a list of item types to choose from. Choose one of the types to search for from the list. Please note that the list may change in the future, and new item types may be added.

There are three types of fields in the search window:

• Name field. The name field represents the name of the search. It's free form and will be shown in the search tree.
• Search User field. This may be useful if you are interested in finding all items from a particular user.
• Other search fields. Depending on the item type, the search window has several search fields. When you leave every field empty or untouched the search will return all items from that type. Also, in general, the more fields you fill in the more restricted the search will be.

Please note that a search will be updated in real time. I.e. whenever a new item is available that matches your search it will appear immediately. Each search will stay active until removed.

Why should I add favorites?

In order to be able to chat or download shared files, the item of interest should be added to your list of favorites. First click on the the item in the list view (middle part of the window) then click on the 'Add to favorites' icon on the tool bar. The item will be removed from the list view and added to the tree of favorites.

Adding an item to the list of favorites has several consequences:

• All open messages related to this item will be downloaded.
• Zeemo will keep track of the on line status of the owner of the item.
• Future related messages will be downloaded whenever they become available.
• If the favorite has a shared directory, peer to peer file sharing is possible.
• You can send messages related to the item.

How can I send messages?

Click on the 'Send Message' icon from the tool bar to send a message. Please note that this icon is enabled only if an item from the list of favorites or a message from another user has been selected.

The items in the tree under 'My Items' and 'My Favorites' act as folders for messages. Click on an item to show the messages related to this item.

In Zeemo there are two types of messages:

• Normal messages. This type of message will only be received by the person shown in the title of the window
• Open messages. This type of message will be sent to all users who have the related item added to their list of favorites.

How can I send attachments?

Click the 'Attachment' icon in the message window, and add the file you want to attach. Please note that when you receive a message with an attachment it will only be downloaded after the corresponding link has been clicked.

Why combine more modules in one product?

The advantage of combining several modules in one product is that there is only one user name and password required for all modules. Also the interface is the same across all modules.

What is Zeemo RSS

Zeemo RSS is a RSS reader. You can subscribe to several newsfeeds but, unlike other RSS readers, you can also search in a huge and expanding database of RSS items. Therefore, Zeemo RSS is a search engine for RSS items. With Zeemo RSS the news items will be downloaded from the server but will never be stored on your computer to keep the required harddisk space low.

How big is this news database?

As the RSS module is developed recently the database is still relatively small. But, with a growing number of users of the RSS module, the database is continuously expanding.

How does Zeemo collect RSS items?

The Zeemo server starts collecting items from a news source if a user adds a search containing that particular news source. I.e. if you create a search with news source: htpp://some.news.source/index.xml, the server will start collecting news items from htpp://some.news.source/index.xml.

Does this mean that the RSS database will grow over time?

Yes. The server will harvest the list of news sources with a specific interval while at the same time, news items will never be removed from the server.

But what will happen if I remove a search for a particular news source?

The server will still keep harvesting the source even if the search containing that particular source has been removed.

Why are there quotes in my search?

As the news source in the search is in fact a normal keyword, the quotes make sure that a link is treated as a single string of characters instead of several keywords separated by slashes and dots.
